Exclusive Interview with C PLUS
Briefly tell us about how you got started for those who don't know.
Started freestylin' in my early teens, just kinda stuck with it. started recording and putting out lil' mixtapes and what not around the age of 18. Built a small buzz within Sac, and now im here.
We see you did some stuff with Black Milk, how did that come about, what was it like working with him?
umm...well i never actually worked WITH Black Milk haha. He put out a beat tape in '08 called Music From The Color Purple. My tape, The Purple Heart was just me goin' in over that whole beat tape. I met Black at his album release in LA, and he was cool....gave me a drop for the tape. I don't think he ever listened to it tho...haha
What has been your best and worst moment since you stepped into the hip hop game?
It varies...i'm pretty sure the worst and the best are yet to come. Purple Heart was def. a high point. I've been passed up for a lot of shows, and missed a lot of big opportunities in music due to other responsibilities. That's always a downer, but you gotta tough it out, ya know
So what projects do you have going on right now?
I just dropped my 3rd mixtape of '09; May/Mar Madness. In March I did a live music feed where I leaked a song everyday for the entire month..so this tape is just that .zipped up for my loyal listeners...the ones who really fuck with me. We didn't do any promo for it...I just woke up one day and was like "fuck, I still need to put out all that March Madness shit". So I made the cover art and put it out that night. As I do this interview Im with Lee Bannon, dumping down beats that are gonna be used on our EP that will be out hopefully before the end of summer. Me and Nicatyne got a project in the works. Me and Dj Oasis have a mixtape coming in June/July; A Breath of Fresh AIR! That'll be me on a lot of industry/mainstream stuff that's already out, just giving it my flavor. Then me and my older brother; N*Pire are sitting on enough material to put out a album, but were still stacking tracks daily...we're not putting out Band Of Brother's without some type of deal, cause it deserves one. Me and Rock Burgandy have a mixtape done that's waiting to be mixed (5th AVE is a busy MF). And i'm always putting new shit in the works. All the projects I named will be out before the end of 2010, then I might go to College and stop doing music for a lil'...or somethin' like that

Lately Sacramento has been stepping its game up, how do you feel about the love local artist have been getting and what would you ultimately like to see happen in Sacramento?
Sacramento doesn't get a quarter of the love it deserves from it's city. The promoters and venues are slowly coming around, but the fans is still a losing battle. People don't come out to shows because the club owners make them feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Then they don't wanna pay to see a show because there's prolly somebody dope on the bill, but they have to sit thru 2 to 5 bum ass niggas that only got on cause they're somebodies freind or cousin. I'd eventually like to see everybody gettin' money, fans loving our music, and venues WANTING us to come perform at they spot; not the other way around. I wanna see Sacramento get the national spotlight as far as Hip Hop; just like Houston had. They Bay had it for a sec. ATL had it. Then MIA had it last year. They gave it back to ATL but now it's slowly moving to LA with the whole new school scene out there. But I honestly feel we got it. They just don't want us to have it 'cause were a small city and were not blown up on a scale of popularity in general. No one ever says, "Hey, I wanna go on vacation. I wanna go to Sacramento." I compare us to Detroit like that in a lot of ways. Same with the DMV. (D.C., Maryland, Virginia)
Hip Hop Congress is holding HIP HOP AWARNESS show, how do you feel about that event?
Straight up. There's a lot of dope niggas on the flyer, and a lot of the B squad. I feel it when people say stuff like "Oh, there tight but just not for everybody. Or, this ain't my thing but, I see why pepole would listen to it". But whack is whack. I don't think y'all need to make people more aware of already bad music. Weed the dope niggas out from the bums, than will see what's up. But I will be at that shit, with a open mind too.
Tell us about the the song people will be able to download.
The song you'll be able to grab is MightyMighty. It was produced by Billy Hi-Life from Neighborhood Watch. This is prolly what you would consider my most "street" record to date. It was me giving the listener a taste of my struggle and frustration, but in an almost cocky, braggadocious way. It's dope haha

Any last words or shout you would like to give?
Shouts to everybody who listen to my music, and see's my vision and where i'm going with it. I feel like we can give some of the younger cats something to believe in, and they'll really get behind me (pause) and a few other select cats and help us break Sacramento to the rest of the world. Shouts to all my producers who give me the canvas to paint these pictures on. And also big shout outs to you guys, and all the other digital media outlets pushing real music. One love to my fam, and the whole Watch Gang (Bang!Bang!) and Loops&Legends Music Group. LET'S GET THIS $$$!!!
